Using the Pulse Agent

The Pulse Agent is dedicated, high performance, low signature software with the sole purpose of providing the Pulse Platform all the metrics it needs to provide insights and alerts for Big Data Clusters.

A single instance of the agent can monitor multiple clusters.

Security and data protection is a priority for us. The Pulse Agent software is sending metrics only and never anything more than that. Under no circumstances does it send actual data stored on your platforms.

Configuring Clusters to Monitor

When monitoring a single cluster, you can provide the cluster details through environment variables.

A single agent can monitor several clusters. Each of these clusters should be listed with it's full access credentials in the clusters section. See the dedicated documentation section for each individual technology for more details.

See Configuring clusters to monitor

Configure the agent

See Configuration for additional possible parameters for the startup command and the configuration file.

There are several deployment options for the agent, see the dedicated documentation for each platform for more details.

Ensure that the agent has access

The Pulse Agent needs to be able to connect to both the monitored services, and to https://incoming.pulse.support/ , where it sends the monitoring data to. Make sure the machine on which the agent is installed has network access to both.

If you need to go through a proxy for external access, see Configuring the Pulse Agent on how to configure that. See the dedicated documentation section for each individual technology to ensure the agent has permissions to collect monitoring data from the monitored services.
